LIVERPOOL today made their first significant transfer move of the summer with a swoop for 20-year-old Brazilian Lucas Leiva.
The youngster, rated one of the most exciting emerging talents in South America, has signed from Brazilian club Gremio.
Leiva was recently called up to his national team, and Rafa Benitez believes the central midfielder will be challenging for a first team place at the beginning of next season.
Leiva will join the Reds in the summer after Benitez beat a host of top clubs to his signature.








The fee has remained undisclosed at this stage, but is believed to be around £5m.

“He’s a player with a lot of quality who we watched playing for the Brazil Under-20s,” Benitez said today.

“He will be ready to join the first team squad from the start of next season. He's a very good signing for us and likes to be an attacking midfielder, but he has many qualities.

“We've now reached an agreement for the player to join us.”

Leiva will be the second South American to join the Reds this summer, following Argentinian left winger Sebastian Leto.

L'année dernière, il a été élu par un magazine français deuxième meilleur espoir d'Amérique du Sud derrière Messi.
Son dernier but date de fin mars, il faut dire que son équipe marque très peu (aucun but ces trois derniers matchs)
Son physique tient un peu coton malheureusement, malgré qu'il est grand, il a parfois du mal à faire imposer son physique

Liverpool : Signature imminente de Leiva

Le club anglais de Liverpool a confirmé sur son site Internet la signature imminente du milieu de terrain brésilien, Lucas Leiva. Le joueur de Gremio Porto Alegre est le capitaine de la sélection Espoirs brésilienne.

Convoité par l'Atletico Madrid, l'Inter Milan, la Juventus de Turin et Palerme, Lucas Pezzini Leiva (20 ans) est proche de s'engager avec Liverpool. Selon Rafael Benitez, l'entraîneur des Reds, « l'accord entre le club et le joueur est imminent et je suis ravi qu'il nous rejoigne. »

En provenance de Gremio, et pour environ 12 millions d’euros, Lucas est la première recrue pour le finaliste de la Ligue des Champions. International à une reprise avec le Brésil (contre le Koweit), Lucas était surveillé par de nombreux clubs européens. C’est finalement les Reds qui décrochent la palme.
