Agger breaks his hand to add to Benitez problems

DANIEL AGGER broke his hand playing for Denmark in their 4-0 Euro 2008 qualifying victory over Liechtenstein last night to add to manager Rafael Benitez's injury woes.

The Danish defender is expected to be in plaster for four to five weeks and is definitely out of the Premier-ship clash with Blackburn at Anfield on Saturday.

This latest injury blow will only add further fuel to the Liverpool manager's argument over the need for an overhaul in the relationship between clubs and national teams.

Liverpool are already without Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt, who is out for two weeks with an ankle ligament injury, picked up during Holland's Euro 2008 qualifier with Bulgaria last Saturday.

Benitez will be hoping the rest of his international contingent return unscathed today as his plans for the return to Premiership action have been severely disrupted.

Another player facing a lay-off over the next few weeks, Jerzy Dudek, has seen his sending-off in the mini derby spark a row between the two Merseyside clubs.

Liverpool say they intend appealing against the red card handed to the Polish international after he lashed out at Everton striker Victor Anichebe in the 2-1 defeat for the club's reserves.

Manager Benitez believes they have a good case because of the original challenge on Dudek by Everton's young striker. However officials at Goodison Park have backed the referee's decision at the Halton Stadium.

Reserve team coach Andy Holden declared: "If you put your hands on people then you have to go."

And he is unimpressed by accusations of foul play against his own player.

"Dudek has been a top class goalkeeper but he walked past me and showed me his leg and I have had bigger gnat bites," he retorted.

However Anfield manager Benitez has branded the challenge of his second choice keeper as "terrible."

He said: "I've been waching the video again and it's clear we have to do something. The tackle on Jerzy was terrible. "We will be seeing if we can appeal this decision because when you see the tackle on Jerzy, it's clear what happened. The tackle was so bad, and yet the player only received a yellow card. It's crazy."

Dudek, who has been cover on the bench for Jose Reina all season, will miss out on a first-team chance in the Carling Cup if he is suspended. He was expected to play against Reading in a third-round tie on October 25, but Liverpool would have youngster David Martin as an alternative.

Any suspension for Dudek does not start for 14 days. An Anfield spokesman said: "In the Premier League, suspensions start immediately, but not following reserve matches."

And the suspension does not apply to Europe, so Dudek will be able to travel to Bordeaux next week in a Champions League Group three match. He will also be able to be Reina's cover against Blackburn on Saturday and at Old Trafford against Manchester United a week later.

Apparently it is not that bad and they are hoping they can put a special cast on it and he won't miss any games.

I broke my hand (twice) playing and was able to play the week after with a cast on..the only problem Agger might have is if they don't allow it due to the fact that he might injure someone with it whilst playing.

Je ne crois pas que ça pose problème, il y a eu un tas de joueurs qui ont pu évoluer avec des plâtres très légers, en résine, je ne vois pas pourquoi on ne permettrait pas à Agger d'en faire autant.

et dire qu'en début de saison ,on disait que notre effectif nous permettrait d'assumer des blessures ...

C'est pas juste Agger, je crois que de nos jours si c'est un platre, en résine ou pas, ça pose problème..

T'aurais pas un peu l'esprit de contradiction toi?

Je vé m'attirer les foudres de certains mais il était pas en train de pousser Sami sur le banc le petit Agger ?

Tout à fait d'accord, je me souviens d'un Gary Lineker qui réalisa une superbe coupe du monde avec un plâtre à la main!!

Je me demande même si il n'avait pas fini meilleur buteur !!

Pourcoi les foudres de certains? lol je pense que hyypia a aussi le droit de jouer et que c le meilleur defenseur avec carragher jusqua maintenant !
Agger est très bon mais pas aussi bon que le très expérimenté Hyypia !
Hyypia pourrai continuer encore trois ans comme ça jusqua 35 ans tu verras !

Sur les gros matchs à enjeux, c clair que Sami est encore très très performant. N'empêche je le trouve vraiment prometteur Agger.

Hyppia est un magnifique joueur, mais il est devenu lent ... trés lent ...

avec une résine ou protection il a le droit de jouer , mais pas avec une alliance.tres con ce réglement

je suis d'accord aussi.agger etait en train d epousser hyppia vers le banc mais bon hyppia est plus proche de la fin que du debut c'est normal.et il reste encore un ters bon joueur.

C ça qui m'y a fait penser...je me souviens de rush en 85 mais ça commence à dater.
Tant mieux s'il a le droit..je ne faisais que faire un remarque.

Hyypia > Agger c'est une suite logique, le premier formant le deuxième qui lui " prends " sa place au fur et à mesure que l'année s'écoule. Person je pense que Hyypia peut et va encore apporter beaucoup au club, il a une expérience très important, forme un très bon duo avec JC puisqu'ils se conaissent parfaitement.

Agger est là pour succéder à Hyypia mais n'enterrons pas Sami trop vite.
