Fans reaction to Red Roy Empty

NEWS that Liverpool will today announce Roy Hodgson as their new manager, broken first by the Liverpool Echo, has provoked lots of debate on our website.

The general consensus of opinion, as expressed by Macca62, is that the new man deserves the support of the fans.

"Lets give the man a chance,", he wrote, "We need everybody pulling in the same direction if we want to get this club back to where it belongs.

"If Roy is the new manager, then he gets my backing 100% from day 1.

"He seemed to have the respect of all the Fulham squad and he got 110% out of all his players, thats what we need right now.

"GOOD LUCK ROY."

liverpooldiehard wrote, "This is great news - welcome Roy. Please play nice attacking football, keep the big names and buy some class wingers please."

WASK was not as optimistic however, "No budget combined with unreasonable expectations from the clearly delusional fans, the poor fella's got no chance."

Some fans, such as welshlad, expressed their reservations over the appointment while wishing the new man the best of luck, "The best LFC could afford !

"Roy can expect a few letters waiting on his desk when he arrives.

I'm a season ticket holder who will support the team through whatever and thought Rafa deserved one more year.

"I don't think Roy is the one for us, but fair play to him for taking up the chalice."

TK paints a pretty bleak future for Reds fans, "Welcome to the real world LFC fans,no money and mid table mediocrity for years to come.

"I wonder if those glory hunting out of towners and foreigners will still go to Anfield with their brand new club colours on ?

"I doubt it very much."

Ricwiz01 however is delighted with Hodgson's arrival, "Great news...face the facts guys, Kenny has been out of managerial positions for many years.

"I don't think he would be able to manage Liverpool these days, it's a very hard task.

"Hodgson got Fulham to their highest peak but they just didn't have the quality players like we do to go as far...signing Hodgson is a positive start for Liverpool's new season"

BillyCakes also sees it as a great move for the club, "Awesome news, so happy to finally have an English manager that knows a lot about the club and its traditions.

"I truly believe Roy will do a great job for us and believe he will make us a team again, not a bunch of cry baby pre madonnas.

"I also believe he will be quite shrewd in the market, he knows what a winger is (no not Dirk) and he won't be as negative or as baffling as Rafa.

"The season's around the corner so let's back him to the hilt he may become an absolute legend - who knows?"

Philinbrazil sums up the pragmatic attitude many Reds are feeling towards their new manager, "I think we should give Roy a chance.

"Yes, it does seem like a step in a 'cheaper' direction, as he will bring a smaller backroom team (not like the Benitez entourage) and he will be able to work on a smaller budget which, let's face it, is the reality now.

"He is good friends with Kenny and I think we can expect to see him being more involved in the first team.

"It might just be a return to the old boot room philosophy we loved at Anfield and, to be honest, still yearn for."

Dave Rathmell says...
Great to see a man with a calm nature and integrity in spades taking the helm. I'm certain he is the man to get things back to being done the liverpool way. Good luck Roy.YNWA

Best of luck Roy.....badly needed fresh start to a team held back by rafa's strange team selections and negative outlook to matches!
