RAFA: LET'S SHOW OUR CHARACTER
Paul Eaton 14 March 2006
Rafael Benitez has challenged his players to bounce back from successive defeats when they take on Fulham tomorrow night.
The Reds go into the game looking for the victory which will consolidate their third place and take them closer to Manchester United in second.
But after back to back defeats at the hands of Benfica and Arsenal, Benitez knows the Reds must raise their performance level against Chris Coleman's side.
"I know we didn't play well against Arsenal. That's clear and I accept that. We were a bit better in the second half, but we know the kind of football we want to see," he said.
"We want to see players getting into wide areas, putting in lots of crosses and playing well. There were times on Sunday we played really bad.
"I've said to the players they now need to show their character. We showed some in the second half the other day, and now we need to do the same in the next games. We have nine Premiership games and the FA Cup.
"To change things, you must show the people on the pitch. It's no good talking, you must play well, score goals and win."
Benitez also insisted he isn't worried by Arsene Wenger's claim that Arsenal can still overtake Liverpool in the league table.
"It's normal for Arsene Wenger to say his team can catch us, because they are behind us," he added.
"He wants to give confidence to his team. But if we continue winning, they can't catch up. It's our responsibility to keep winning our games."
