Smicer confirms Reds exitVladimir Smicer has confirmed that Rafa Benitez has told him his Liverpool career is coming to an end.The Czech Republic international has been speaking to the press in his homeland and accepts his time with the UEFA Champions League finalists will finish this summer.
As he seeks first team football, a switch to former club Lens is one option open to the experienced forward.
"Yes [I am going to leave Liverpool]," he told Idnes. "I talked with the coach Benitez recently and he told me squarely he doesn't want me to extend my contract.
"I am used to living and playing here, so I will be sad. On the other hand, after six years at one club, the change will be useful.
"The behaviour of the Liverpool management was absolutely okay. They don't count on me, they should put me in the reserve team but they act right.
"I do not feel such worth if I play, for example, only one minute in the semi-final against Chelsea."
Smicer believes international colleague Milan Baros could also be on his way out of Anfield.
"He told me he doesn't remember a match in which he played the whole 90 minutes," he explained.
"He doesn't feel tired and Benitez took him off.
"But it's up to them, they have to clear the air. The coach has some concepts and, if Milan doesn't fulfil them, he takes him off.
"Hopefully, he won't be on the bench against Milan.
"Milan have rather old defenders so Baros would be useful with his speed."
