Morientes : Ici, les fans sont incroyables

Fernando Morientes nous a parlé de sa vie de footballeur sur les bords de la Mersey et même s'il reconnaît qu'il lui faudra du temps pour s'installer, il est déjà tombé amoureux de son nouveau club et des fans.

Morientes doit encore gagner un match avec Liverpool, ayant enchaîné une défaite à domicile pour ses débuts contre Manchester United avec une autre défaite contre le Southampton de Harry Redknapp, mais il croit que tant l'équipe que lui-même vont revenir à un bon niveau cette saison.

"Je trouve que c'est dur de s'adapter mais je suis déjà mieux maintenant" dit-il. "C'est surprenant quand vous voyez des choses auxquelles vous n'êtes pas habitué, comme de s'entraîner en l'absence des fans et de la presse. Je commence à comprendre les choses, ma femme cherche une maison et une école pour les enfants et les choses se mettent en place."

"J'aime le terrain d'entrainement et bien sûr Anfield - c'est vrai qu'il y a une certaine magie avant, pendant et après un match. Il y a de nouvelles choses qui attirent votre attention. J'ai l'avantage que [Rafa] Benitez parle bien anglais, du moins c'est l'impression que j'ai. Je peux tout comprendre et c'est un soulagement".

"Ce club est beaucoup plus calme que le Real Madrid, où tout est exagéré, et les gens dans la rue sont tranquilles. Ils vous arrêtent, mais ils sont très polis et c'est bien pour un footballeur. Nous sommes un club historique et cinquièmes au classement mais ça n'est pas un problème. La confiance qu'on vous donne ici est incroyable. Quand vous faites signer un coach comme Benitez, c'est pour le laisser travailler avec une vision à long terme et c'est ce qui est en train d'arriver."[/u]

Fernando Morientes has spoken out about football life on Merseyside and although he admits it will take him time to settle, he's already fallen in love with his new club and the fans.
Morientes has yet to play on a winning side for Liverpool, having followed up a home debut loss against Manchester United with another defeat at the hands of Harry Redknapp's Southampton, but he believes that both he and the team will still come good this season.

"I am finding it hard to adapt but I am better now," he said. "It's surprising when you see things you are not used to, such as training without any fans or without the press watching. I am starting to get to know things, my wife is looking for a house and a school for the kids and things are falling into place.

"I love the training ground and of course Anfield - it's true there is a certain magic before, during and after a game. They are new things that attract your attention. I have the advantage that [Rafa] Benitez speaks English well, at least that's how it seems to me. I can understand everything and that is a relief.

"This club is a lot calmer than Real Madrid, where everything gets magnified, and the people in the street are calm. They stop you, but they are very polite and that is good for a footballer. We are a historic club and fifth in the table but that is not a problem. The confidence that you get given here is incredible. When you sign a coach like Benitez it is to let him work with a long-term view and that is what is happening."
