CARRA: GERRARD WILL GO ON A SCORING RUN
Paul Eaton 02 November 2006
Jamie Carragher has backed Steven Gerrard to go on a goalscoring run after netting his first of the season against Bordeaux in midweek.
Gerrard ended a 15 game scoring drought by slotting home Liverpool's second of the night as they cruised to victory to claim their place in the last sixteen of the Champions League.
Carragher now believes the Reds' skipper will rediscover the form which brought him 23 goals last season and help the club climb the Premiership table.
"Stevie was a bit unfortunate before his goal," he said. "He had quite a few opportunities but didn't hit the target.
"I know him well and know how he would have felt if he hadn't scored.
It was a great relief for him to get that goal. He is up and running now and I am sure he will get a few more.
"He is like the rest of us in that we are disappointed at how we have done this season.
"Stevie is off the mark and what he did last year, 23 goals for a midfield player, you can't expect him to do every year.
"It is going be difficult to better that. But I am sure he will get into double figures."
