Well there are some interesting points being made her but no one other than JLB has mentioned what they think the starting line up will be for the first league match. In my case the reason is simple, I just don't know whether Raffa will throw the new boys in at the deep end from day one or will ease them in gently one or two maximum at a time.

Also there is the factor that while Raffa out thought and out planned all of the best coaches in Europe last year. He did not do so well in the Prem and at times seemed to make some very naive tactical decisions which resulted in poor results for us.(Burnley) Are we going to see the same Jekyll and Hyde home and away performances witnessed last year? Or will Raffa pick a one team for our home matches and another for away matches. I hope not as I think this would be a mistake. It remains to be seen just how much Raffa learned from his first season in the Prem.

Also I think we have to consider the fact that if we truly contest the FA cup this season as well as the League cup and the CL we are going to have a great number of games to play.

Je crois qu'il ne faut pas oublier un nouveau facteur essentiel à mon avis par rapport à la saison dernière, c'est la confiance emmagasinée grâce à la victoire en CL.
Même si on sera attendu partout, ça nous rapportera quand même des points.

C'est clair il y aura un rang à tenir, plus de match pittoyable comme la saison dernière à l'extérieur.
Et à domicile le public sera encore là et plus exigeant que jamais, donc espoir pour cette saison ou le gros favoris est Chelsea, et dans le peloton des gros outsiders Arsenal, MU, et les Reds.

The point Reynaud makes is the worrying one. I think we have to ask if the reason for our poor performances away from home has more to do with the way the team was asked to play than the staff available? After all it was the same players.

We absolutley cannot afford to to start the season in the same way. We have to go to Boro and win and set out our intentions for all to see if we really are going to be serious title contenders. 4 or 5 years ago Alex Ferguson used to say if you lose more than 5 games in a season you can forget any chance of winning the title. Since then even this slim margin has been further reduced. Arsenal the season before and Chelsea last season have shown thet they can almost go the whole of a season without defeat.

This is where the bar has been raised to and this is what we must aspire to if we truly have any ambition to be champions.

C'est clair "Shankly Gates" qu'avec des teams comme chelsea MU Arsenal tu ne peux pas te permettre de laisser des points chez des clubs moyens si tu veux avoir une chance de remporter le titre. C'est pourquoi il faut un banc pour jouer le championnat, les coupes, la ligue des champions.
De ce fait l'équipe type peut concurencer n'importe quelle autre équipe, aprés ce sont les bancs qui souvent en novembre décembre janvier font la différence.
Donc la question est : Que vaut le banc de Liverpool cette année.

Ofenssivement , notre banc a un gros potentiel : Kewell-Zenden ; Sinama pongolle-Baros-Cissé-Morientes-Crouch ; Mark Gonzales-Luis Garcia

Mais derriere , faudrait un arriere droit , ainsi qu'un défenseur central , voir deux.

Au niveau gardien on a de quoi tenir toute la saison avec trois bons gardiens : Reina-Dudek-Carson ( qui devra jouer a mon avis )

OK Reynaud a valid point, you would expect that the team for the Prem would look something like the team laid out above by JLB. Although I do not think Morientes will figure as he has not been able to come to terms with the english game IMO. So we could see Le Tallec, FLP, or one of the new guys try his luck. I don't think and I sincerely hope Raffa is not going to throw too many of the non prem experienced players in at the deep end as this would have an unsettlling effect on the side.

Morientes could well figure in the CL games along with some of the new boys.

So my starting line up would be Reina (the fact that Dudek was not on the bench in the CL gamesmeans for me he is being sold) Finnan, Carra, Rise,Trahore,Gerrard, Alonso, Zenden, Riise Cisse, Garcia.

Now the bench would be harder to name but probably;
Dudek ( if he is still a Red otherwise Carson) Hamman, Sissoko,Le Tallec,Morientes

Go on then pick the lumps out of that.

We have Whitbread as cover for Carra and Hyppia and I do not think it will be enough. Raffa is working hard to bring a quality central defender but is not having much success.

I think we should agree the fee proposed by zaragosa for Milito, it will be easier.

I put el Moro in my eleven because Crouch cannot play the first two games. I think (if Baros leaves) that Rafa will chose Crouch or Garcia otherwise.

And I agree about the center fulback. I hope maybe Milito or Upson will sign soon. Gallas could be a good signing too, but I don't think Chelsea will let him go.

No I do not, Zak is a youngster who needs bringing along gently. To put him up against the best and most experienced attackers in the Prem could ruin his confidence.

I think the problem with Milito is that Zaragoza don't really want to let him go. Also all the world and his brother thinks because we won the CL we are rich so the fees being asked are ludicrous. The truth is we are not reach in fact I do not know where the money that Raffa is spending is coming from.

Yes we certainly made some money from the CL win but the legacy of Houliiers reign was always going to take 2 to 3 years to recover from. And then there is the small matter of finding the funds to build our new stadium.

I would love to see Gallas at Anfield, a real quality central defender but it all seems to have gone very quiet. I heard when I was on holiday we had offered 5Million and they had accepted it? I have heard nothing since.

In fact give us Gallas and Makalele and we would clean up in all competitions.

Makelele ? They're not crazy, he will never leave Chelsea. Except if we give them Gerrard...

On ne voudrait pour rien au monde un départ de Gerrard , Chelsea pareil pour Makelele je pense, il a été fabuleux la saison derniére.

OK so Lampard got player of the year last year. he only won it in my opinion because he had Makalele behind him. Imagine Stevie G bursting forward from midfield safe in the knowledge that you have got Makalele behind you tidying everything up.

La saison prochaine on pourrait faire trés mal si Stevie et Xabi s'entendent...

OK avec toi Amadou, Gerrard et Alonso surtout si stevie joue plus offensif que la saison dernière pourraient faire trés mal car ce sont de fabuleux créateurs capable en + de marquer. Par contre si stevie avace d'un cran Sissoko je pense peut le remplacer mais il faudrait un autre poumon en milieux défensif.

Rien qu'avec ces 3 là, ça offre déjà de belles possibilités, non ?

Oui mais souvient toi des blessures de l'année dernière...je pense qu'en milieu (surtout défensif) il faut du renfort. Biscan est partit, Didi même s'il est toujours au top et je l'adore commence a avoir de l'âge et aura du mal a tenir le rythme toute la saison.

Je suis toujours inquiet quand je voit les adversaires des reds arriver au 30 mètres sans problèmes.

Bon, c'est sûr qu'avec un milieu de plus ce serait plus confortable. Mais avec Gerrard, Alonso, Hamann et Sissoko, on a quand même 4 gars pour 2 places. Et 4 de très haut niveau !

C'est sûr qu'au milieu il y a du monde, tu peux aussi rajouter Garcia qui peut jouer à ce poste.
Mais l'idéal au vu des derniers matchs et à la 2ème mi-temps de la finale pour prendre vraiment un match référence c'est que Stevie monte d'un cran, Xabi est un milieu offensif reste en défensif Sissoko et Didi. C'est un poste qui demande une grande dépense d'énergie c'est pourquoi j'aimerai voir du renfort à ce poste.
Plus un défenseur central et un latéral.
Mais bon il faudra aussi peut-être laisser leur chance aux jeunes du club.
