BACK OPERATION FOR AGGER

Daniel Agger is to undergo an operation on his troublesome back that will rule the Liverpool defender out for another two months.

Having failed to appear during pre-season, Agger has missed both of Liverpool's opening league games due to the injury. According to The Daily Mail, Agger has now been booked in for surgery and will have an operation in France on Tuesday.

'The Liverpool centre-back has pencilled in Denmark's World Cup qualifiers with Sweden and Hungary in the middle of October for his comeback,' the newspaper reports.

While the news represents a setback for Rafa Benitez, the Liverpool boss is expected to add defensive cover to his squad over the weekend in the form of AEK Athens defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos. It is also thought likely that Martin Skrtel, absent for the midweek victory over Stoke with a hairline fracture of the jaw, could be available for Monday's clash with Aston Villa.

Rafa won't risk Agger
Dane close to return after back problem

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed he will not take any risks with Daniel Agger's fitness.

Agger is close to returning to action after undergoing a minor back operation last month.

The Dane has yet to feature this season due to the problem, but Benitez believes the classy central defender could be back in action next week.

Liverpool's injury problems are easing with Fabio Aurelio making his first appearance of the campaign as a late substitute against Debrecen in midweek and other long-term absentee Alberto Aquilani set to start training in the next few weeks.

"Aurelio is now ready for a comeback, Mascherano is also over his problem while Danny Agger is very close to a return and (Alberto) Aquilani is also getting close to being involved in full training," said Benitez.

"When the majority of our squad are fit, we can manage games with more confidence.

"Agger is a risk, he could play now, but he has been out for a long time and we have to be careful with him. But I believe that next week he could be available."

Quote :
AGGER FITNESS BOOST FOR BENITEZ
Daniel Agger has given boss Rafael Benitez a major boost by returning to training at Melwood.

The Reds No.5 hasn't featured since pre-season after requiring a back operation.

"Daniel is training, he is okay so it's a question of match fitness now," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He will need some games little by little but he is doing well.

"Hopefully in a few weeks everyone will be fit and it's a headache for me, but I prefer this situation."

Quote :
AGGER CLOSING IN ON RETURN
Daniel Agger is set to give manager Rafael Benitez a massive fitness boost by returning to action this week.

The Danish defender has missed the start of the season after undergoing back surgery, but he's now well on the road to recovery and closing in on a first team comeback.

Agger won't be involved against Hull today, but Benitez expects him to be involved either against Fiorentina on Tuesday or for the reserves against Manchester City on the same night.

"Daniel is training really well and improving," said the boss. "He has a specific programme with weights to strengthen his back. He is doing well and progressing but the main thing for him now is match fitness.

"We have to be careful with him and we have been talking with the doctor and the fitness coach Paco (De Miguel).

"We are hoping he could be back playing next week. When and where we still have to decide but we have the match against Fiorentina and also the reserves game on the same night.

"It will be very positive to have Daniel back."

AGGER TO MAKE CITY RETURN

Steve Hunter 28 September 2009

Daniel Agger will make his comeback from injury for the reserves at Manchester City on Tuesday night.
The Reds No.5 has been sidelined since pre-season with a back problem, but his return to fitness has given Rafa Benitez a major boost.

Swiss international Philipp Degen and David Ngog are also expected to feature for John McMahon's side at the City of Manchester Stadium (kick-off 7pm).

"It is fantastic to see Daniel back and it's a great boost for everyone at the club," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It's always great to see quality players come back from injury and this will be a perfect game for him to make his comeback.

"It's a fantastic stadium with a great pitch and it is always a fantastic boost for the young lads when they have a top professional like Daniel playing alongside them.

"The young lads look up to him and they can learn from him as well."

Mon 05 Oct 2009

Daniel Agger has revealed that he considered retiring from Anfield and football in general earlier this summer.

The Liverpool defender made the shock confession in an interview with a newspaper in his native Denmark after an injury-hit career which was struck again this summer with a back problem which forced the 24-year-old to consider his future.

He said: "My back was hurting so badly that I considered stopping playing..

"I asked myself if it was worth continuing playing. When you can't even lift your own child out of bed, then something is terribly wrong."

argh

Si cela se confirmait, ce serait une grosse perte pour l'équipe et la retraite prématurée d'un excellent joueur

Espérons que super Danny va guérir rapidement et que cela n'est pas chronique !

AGGER: IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK
Daniel Agger is confident his injury problems are behind him and has set his sights on helping Liverpool bounce back to winning ways at home to Lyon tonight.
Speaking to radio journalists ahead of the Champions League clash with Claude Puel's side, the Dane discussed his rehabilitation, the threat the French outfit will pose and what it will take for Liverpool to recapture their best form.

L'interview d'Agger: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N166141091020-0844.htm

Quote :
BOSS: AGGER'S RETURN CAN BOOST DEFENCE

Rafa Benitez believes Daniel Agger's return can help Liverpool overcome any defensive issues endured this season.

The Dane played 90 minutes in Sunderland at the weekend after sitting out the early part of the campaign with a back injury.

Benitez believes Agger's unique qualities and the extra competition in defence can only be of benefit as Liverpool look to tighten up at the back.

"It's important for us," the gaffer told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Daniel is a player with quality who can pass the ball, so it means we can start playing football from the back.

"I think his return can help. The competition is always good, especially in a top side. It will be good to see him fighting for his position with the other centre-backs."

Another player who featured on Saturday was Jay Spearing, who was handed a Premier League debut in the absence of Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano.

Benitez believes it was difficult for the 20-year-old to make an impact in such a difficult fixture but thinks the experience will stand Spearing in good stead.

"He worked hard. In these kind of games when the team is not playing well, it's not easy," said the Spaniard.
