Hicks:"Rafa doit lutter pour le titre"

Hicks a parlé le lendemain de la defaite à Istanbul au Guardian.voici un extrait:
"Une des raisons pour lesquelles nous avons depensé beaucoup d'argent cet été est de créer une profondeur d'effectif que nous avons maintenant.Rafa nous a expliqué qu'un championnat est tres long vous jouez chaque equipe 2 fois.
Nous supportons totalement Rafa.Il n'existe pas une personne qui veuille plus gagner que lui.Mais je sais quand nous avons investis cet été l'objectif est de rivaliser avec des equipes pour le titre.Avant nous n'avions pas la profondeur d'effectif pour le faire.
Cette equipe est assez bonnne pour remporter des trophés.Si ca ne devait aps arriver nous devrions analyser pourquoi et avoir une reunion à la fin de la saison pour comprendre pourquoi ca n'a pas marché.Mais je ne veux pas prevoir l'echec.je veux prevoir le succes."

HICKS: RAFA WILL GET US THROUGH

Co-chairman Tom Hicks believes Rafa Benitez will steer Liverpool into the later stages of the Champions League despite defeat in Besiktas.

The Reds have just one point from three games so far in Group A, but the American owner is still confident about our chances.

"Rafa's ability to coach and manage in the Champions League should be unquestioned," said Hicks.

"We had a disappointing loss. I think we have our work cut out, but yeah we can qualify. We have to win the next three games.

"We're just not playing as good as we can right now. Obviously, Fernando Torres is injured, but hopefully he can play at the weekend.

"We haven't lost in the league yet and if we win on Sunday, we'll be within three points of Arsenal, so that's the plan. I think we're doing okay."

The Reds manager dismissed speculation in the national media that he has been given an ultimatum by the club’s American owners that he needs to win the Premiership title this year to keep his job.

He said: “I have not seen the papers but I find this kind of talk very strange, especially when you look at the big picture.

“The main managers need a lot of time to build a team to win the title and if every manager who spent money and did not win the title was sacked there would be lots of new managers every year.

“We have won titles in the last three years – the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Super Cup.”

Co-chairman Tom Hicks has praised the wonderful support of the Liverpool fans and has promised them that they will have a new stadium to be proud of in the future.

Hicks also revealed that plans are in place for upgraded facilities to buy tickets.

"Our fans are wonderful," beamed Hicks. "As we get the new stadium, we will be to give them services they haven't had before, amenities they haven't had before, comforts they have never had before and ease of getting tickets they have never had before."

Meanwhile, Hicks believes Liverpool will bounce back from their midweek disappointment in Turkey and continue their quest for the Premier League crown.

"I totally support Rafa," added Hicks. "One of the reasons we made the signings we did in the summer was to create the depth we now have – which as he explained to George and me is how you win the Premier League.

"Rafa wants to win the Premier League badly and we haven't lost it yet. We've got great players. Nobody wants to win more than Rafa and success begets success.

"Rafa thinks, and this is something George and I both support, that the way to win things is to produce good young players. Our players are young. Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and all the players we have signed are real young."
