| voici un post trainant sur ynwa. Just started reading 'The Official Liverpool FC Illustrated History' and came across a summary of the first ever Merseyside derby. It was in the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup and played at Bootle Football Club. Non league Liverpool went one up after half an hour and had a second goal disallowed before Everton applied some late pressure. To quote from the report: - Quote :
- "In the final minute Everton's players claimed a Liverpool defender had handled in the box, and demanded the referee award them a penalty, but, after consulting a linesman, he waved their protests aside, and blew for time just 30 seconds later.
Everton's fans and players reacted with such fury that the Liverpool FA officials did not dare present the Cup. The Everton directors then handed them a written protest about the result, along with a letter complaining about the "general incompetence" of the referee. Two days later officials met at the city's Neptune Hotel and rejected the complaints outright. They also issued a stern statement criticizing Everton's conduct and poor sportsmanship in the face of defeat." |
