PostSubject: Crisis?   Fri 24 Sep 2010 - 14:15

So the press we are saying we are in crisis?

Personally I don't think we are, yes it was a bad loss to the Cobblers but this is a typical domestic cup giantkilling. We are not the first team
to be outed from a domestic cup by a minnow and we won't be the last.

More important for me is that this defeat has focused Roys attention and we cannot afford anymore bad results.

We are now going into a period where we need to and should be putting together a string of confidence boosting wins.
That is what is needed at this moment and that means completely forgetting about trying to keep all of the fringe players happy
but picking your strongest team available until we have put together a string of wins and confidence has been restored.

So I hope Roy understands that the moment for experimenting or trying to keep squad players motivated or listening to the Sports Science team about
if players will be burnt out later in the season is a luxury he cannot afford.

We quite simply have to start winning and restoring badly needed confidence to the side. If not. He will truly be faced with a crisis.

We have to start winning as you can see on the players faces they are not happy. Hodgson has to stop the rot and stop us conceding
so many goals. It is couple every game now!

I think a dose of reality is called for here, what we do not need is hysteria.

We are 2 wins off of a top four place, that is nothing in the course of a season.

We are going through a difficult patch but I don't think we are in crisis. We just need to get behind our team and manager
and be patient.

Crisis point! Ex-Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson hammers Reds flops after Blackpool humiliation
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 11:53 AM on 5th October 2010

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has launched a scathing attack on the current crop of Reds stars - labelling the club's plight an 'official crisis'.
Roy Hodgson has endured a disastrous start to his reign at Anfield after picking up a measly six points in the club's first seven Premier League games, leaving the Reds in the relegation zone.
Things went from bad to worse for Hodgson on Sunday after his side slumped to a humiliating 2-1 home defeat to top-flight new boys Blackpool.

And Lawrenson said: 'After touching down in Spain on Sunday, my feet had barely hit the tarmac when someone told me Liverpool had lost to Blackpool.
'Needless to say my initial reaction was that it was a wind-up. Because I really didnít think Liverpool, even in these trying times, would plummet to these depths.
'And I imagine most supporters saw it that way too. So for them to come to Anfield and win comfortably and outplay a Liverpool side lacking so much in desire means it is officially time to worry. Itís officially a crisis.
'I was asked it if it would have been a crisis if Liverpool had lost to Sunderland a week earlier and I said Ďnoí.

'As it was, Liverpool salvaged a draw and although the performance wasnít great, at least they showed the desire and fight to come back into the game.
'But that is always the minimum requirement for a Liverpool team.
'No matter what the problems are elsewhere, no matter what the circumstances behind the scenes, a Liverpool team has to show desire to press the opposition and show the supporters the passion they demand. If thatís not happening then itís a serious concern.

'Players having a lack of ability you can forgive because thatís how it is, but not giving your all is unforgivable to Anfield regulars.
'And what is even more depressing is, Iím not even sure what can be done about it. Itís not like you can sign a couple of players to turn things round any more.
'Which is a shame because the new players here arenít doing it and some of the old players arenít up to it.
'Itís clear that Liverpool have been relying on their top stars for too long, and now the mediocrity in the squad is being exposed.'
And Lawrenson insists Liverpool can't use the ongoing uncertainty over the club's ownership issues as an excuse for their alarming slide.
He told the Liverpool Daily Post: 'So where do we go from here? First of all, I think itís time to forget about the sale, non-sale, ownership issue all together.
'The owners donít play Ė they can only be blamed for so much.
'And Roy Hodgson needs to stop thinking about it as well. We know the situation makes his job more difficult but that job is to get to the players and snap them out of this alarming slump in form.
'Hodgson will no doubt be questioning everything about himself at the moment but a football manager needs to win games.

Scathing: Lawrenson has launched an attack on Liverpool's current crop
'We all know new owners and new investment is badly needed but in the meantime, Liverpool are in the bottom three for the first time since 1984.
'Back then I was part of that team and we recovered to finish runners-up and get to the European Cup final that season. But that was because we knew we had the players to recover.
'At the moment, you couldnít say that about the current crop.'
