Man City 3 Pool 0 Empty
PostSubject: Man City 3 Pool 0   Man City 3 Pool 0 EmptyTue 24 Aug 2010 - 12:19

You have to admire Hodgsons bravery in picking an attacking line up for an away game to one of the our rivals for a top four slot. The fact it didn't work out should not detract from this.

We started this match the livelier of the two teams but it all went pear shaped from there. The reason for me was quite clearly the performances of Kuyt and Jovanovic they were both guilty of very poor performances throughout the whole 90 minutes. Jovanovic in particular was just a passenger watching the game pass him by. He seemed to have no idea at all how to track back effectively and give danny Agger any protection at all down his flank. I am not really sure what his postion was as even when we had the ball and were looking for an outlet either left or right for some reason both Kuyt and Jovanovic seemd to have tucked inside and we had absolutely no width. this allowed both Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott to push up virtually unopposed in support of Milner and Johnson. We were quite simply overun. Kuyt added to this dismal display by tracking back to cover Gareth Barry' run from midfield and then totally unxeplicably leaving him to run free into the box to open the scoring for City.

The experiment with both Ngog and Torres in tandem in attack just did not work for me, perhaps if Jovanovic and Kuyt had provided some width and some service to them it might have been a different story. We looked totally out of sorts all evening to the extent that I had posted before the match we would be playing a team of strangers to each other, instead it was us that looked as though we had never played together before!

Lucas Leiva? if anyone thought he could fill the shoes of Mascherano we now all know the truth!

Truth said though we were not hammered despite the 3-0 scoreline. City just took their goals well at the right times but their first was down to errors from Lucas leaving Milner the space to cross to Barry who Kuyt has just left to run free into the box. The second was a mistake from Reina who really should have done better and his form in the last 2 games is a cause for concern. The third was just a clumsy challenge from Skrtel on Johnson who was looking for the pen. But this was not a hammering in fact if it had not been for a superb double save from Hart just after the break it could have been a different story.

Conclusion, I really do think Roy should drop both Jovanovic ( who personally I do not rate at all) and Kuyt for our next match.
