A GROUP of Reds’ fans today unveiled an ambitious plan to set up a new amateur Liverpool Football Club.

If successful, AFC Liverpool would be run as an Industrial & Provident Society, a business benefiting the community.

Proposals are at a very early stage and the 10-strong group of fans behind the scheme insist the club will not be an alternative to Liverpool FC.

The project, among the first of its kind in the UK, could work in a similar fashion to the recent United FC and Wimbledon AFC break-outs.

The team would apply to join the North West Counties League and set up trials to recruit players.

Organisers have yet to decide on a home ground although they want to remain within the city boundaries.

A ground share arrangement with a current Merseyside non-league side could be a temporary solution until a permanent home is found.

The 10-man planning committee is made up of Liverpool FC fans and includes an accountant and a lawyer.

The group said initial finance to pay for administration and early running costs may have to come from a form of subscription or membership.

AFC Liverpool has entered into dialogue with Supporters Direct, which gives advice and information to football fans, and has backed the idea.

Their website has only been up and running for a matter of days and has already received 200 e-mails.

Lifelong Red Alun Parry, 37, from Wavertree, is the man leading the scheme.

He said the proposal comes in response to the money and corporate drive “ruining the game”.

The musician and Kop season ticket holder told the ECHO: “We are flying this kite and seeing if people are interested.

“The game has now changed. The grassroots element has disappeared and fans are being priced out of matches at Anfield.

“The Game 39 debate recently demonstrated how football is not interested in the fans and this has been a factor in AFC Liverpool concept. We would charge £5 entrance fees. We would not need a sugar daddy. The club would be owned and run by the fans who would have a vote.

“This is not in opposition to Liverpool FC. We would want to draw our support from Liverpool fans.

“We would expect that AFC Liverpool fans will still support Liverpool and still go to Anfield to support the Reds.”

About AFC Liverpool

What Is AFC Liverpool?
Our plan is to create a new independent football club owned by Liverpool fans and run by Liverpool fans. It will be an Industrial & Provident Society where everyone can buy into it and get an equal vote. A genuine grassroots, not for profit football club.
It is aimed especially at those Liverpool fans priced out of Premier League football. Same colours, same songs, same community of Reds.
Our aim (if accepted) is to be playing in the North West Counties League Division Two in the 2008/09 season.

Is It Against Liverpool FC?
No. Quite the opposite. It will draw it's support base from Liverpool fans. It is expected that AFC Liverpool fans will still support Liverpool and (those who can afford to) will still go to Anfield to support the Reds. The club is meant as a grassroots addition to Liverpool FC, not to be a replacement for it.

Why Bother?
The values of the game at the highest level have changed massively and are now predominantly money driven. Recent proposals by the Premier League have even put the chase for money over the integrity of the competition.
Few people will want to abandon the league proper - but there is a genuine desire amongst fans for values that put the game before profit chasing, and that restore the link between club and supporters.
The Premier League delivers high quality football but it has lost a lot of its soul too.
Moreover, many diehard Reds have simply been priced out of the game, so no longer have a club that represents the community of LFC fans that they can go and watch week in week out.
Why not just pick an existing non league team to follow?
Being a football fan is about belonging and partisanship. If anyone has partisan feelings towards an existing non league side then you will already be in a position to follow them too. But most LFC fans have only ever supported LFC.

Partisanship and a sense of belonging can not be manufactured. Our sense of belonging exists within our support for LFC. For us to have a grassroots team to genuinely support demands the creation of a new not for profit football club owned and run by Liverpool Fans - AFC Liverpool.
I want to help make this happen - what do I do?
To make this a reality we need finance. So we need you to join the club. Beyond that we could do with donations to the club. Even better would be a regular gift eg £1 a week etc.

Remember - this is not an attack on LFC or a rejection of LFC. It is an addition to the LFC we all love. It is an addition that the many thousands of reds priced out of Premiership football desperately need.

A suivre.

Personally I find it quite sad, what we are witnessing is break up of the LFC fan base and solidarity.

I can only hope this a temporary reactio to the present turmoil surrounding the club.

New boys’ first test

May 31 2008 by David Bassett, Liverpool Echo

AFC Liverpool’s first ever fixture will be a friendly match against St Helens Town on Wednesday, July 16 at Ashton Town’s Edge Green Street ground.

The newly-formed club, whose manager is former Burscough boss Derek Goulding, are hoping to gain admission to the Vodkat League for next season, although their home base has yet to be decided.

AFC’s other friendlies include a game at Marine on Tuesday, July 22.

AFC Liverpool slipped to a narrow defeat in their first ever game on Merseyside on Tuesday night.
A goal from midfielder Ian Johnson couldn't prevent a 2-1 defeat at Marine in what was their third pre-season friendly.

Hits from Peter Cumiskey and Kevin Lynch gave the hosts the win but those who made the trip to Crosby witnessed a fine display of attacking football from the newly-formed AFC.

AFC Liverpool were brought crashing down to earth last night after they were heavily beaten at Vauxhall Motors.
The newly formed club endured a miserable first-half against the Blue Square North outfit who raced into a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Thomas Rooney (2) and Pat McFadden.

James Dever headed the visitors back into it just before the interval but, despite putting up more of a fight in the second-half, the visitors could not pull another goal back and the Motormen rubbed salt in their wounds in the last minute when Rio Nelson scored to secure a 4-1 victory.

Qqs news de nos amis de l'AFC...
AFC WIN AGAIN

AFC Liverpool kept up their promotion challenge with a 4-0 away win over Stone Dominoes on Saturday.
The Reds managed to score three times with only ten men after Ian Johnson was given a straight red card for a late tackle on 40 minutes.

Ndiwa 'King' Kangana got on the scoresheet yet again with a bullet header 20 minutes in and Ryan Wignall, James Croxton and Martin Smeaton mad sure of the victory with well-taken strikes in the second half.

The result kept them firmly at the top of the league on the day Derek Goulding picked up his second Manager of the Month award, following AFC's 100 per cent record in October.

Their next match sees them take on New Mills away in the second round of the Vodka Cup on Saturday November 8.

Cela représente quel niveau la Vodkat League ? Au regard du calendrier de l'AFC, cela reste a priori assez local.
