David Fairclough immortalised himself in Reds folklore as he hit the winning goal to secure victory over St Etienne on what is now remembered as one of Anfield's greatest ever nights.
The man who pioneered the nickname 'super sub' came off the bench to send the Kop into raptures as he struck a superb late goal to give Liverpool a famous 3-1 win.
Bob Paisley's men went into the Quarter-final second-leg against the French champions trailing 1-0 and after Kevin Keegan's opener was cancelled out by Dominique Bathenay's long range effort in the second-half, Liverpool needed to score two to progress.
Ray Kennedy made it interesting when he gave the Reds the lead on the night, but it was Fairclough who stole the limelight, when he raced through with just six minutes remaining to fire Liverpool into the last four.
It gave Paisley's men the impetus to go on and reach the final, where they saw off the challenge of Borussia Moenchengladbach to win our first ever European Cup.
