Le 19 septembre 1925 à Anfield, Liverpool marquait 5 buts contre Man.Utd

Remember the last time Liverpool put five past Manchester United at Anfield? Didn't think so.

It happened way back in 1925 when George Bernard Shaw won the Nobel Prize for Literature and Benito Mussolini announced that he was taking dictatorial powers over Italy.

On the football field September 19 was a memorable afternoon for all kopites and one that would stand out as a highlight in a season that saw the Reds finish in seventh place in Division One.

In difficult conditions Matt McQueen's men began slowly and could easily have found themselves behind but for some fine goalkeeping from Elisha Scott and some wayward finishing from the visitors.

United were by far the better side early on but were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal on 21 minutes when inside forward Dick Forshaw picked up a pass from Harry Chambers and drilled a fine effort into the right hand corner with Alf Steward rooted to the spot.

It was a lead the Reds scarcely deserved but one that they held through to the half-time interval thanks in part to the fine positional play of Reds defender Donald McKinlay.

A similar pattern ensued in the second period when both Joe Spence and Frank McPherson failed to take advantage of gilt-edged chances and minutes later Liverpool doubled their lead.

The dangerous Forshaw once again caused havoc in the United box and when his effort deflected back into own his path he played the ball to Chambers who smashed home at the Kop end.

Buoyed by their second goal Liverpool took the ascendancy and just minutes after the hour mark it was three when Forshaw unleashed a 30-yard thunderbolt beyond the dive of a shell shocked Steward.

Forshaw was one of the Reds' most prominent goalscorers throughtout the 1920s and deservedly grabbed his hat-trick goal on 71 minutes before a magnificent individual goal from Archie Rawlings put the seal on a wonderful display when he eluded the challenges of two players and fired the ball home from 20 yards with just four minutes remaining .

cé bien, cé resté dans les annales LFC scarf

espérons qu'on arrivera a les battre cette saison en championnat car ca commence a faire longtemps (depuis avril 2004 et le penalty de murphy a old trafford si je ne me trompe pas)

Oui, je trouve que c'est une super idée de la part de l'Offal et de la tienne (pour avoir commencé à la transférer sur le forum). Ca permet pour nous tous de revivre jour par jour les faits essentiels de l'histoire des Reds surtout quand on était pas de ce monde (comme en 1925 lol

).
